Education and Training

Invite Fort Loudoun Electric Cooperative to your classroom/event to share important information with your students.

FLEC offers four educational programs for students:

1. Louie the Lightning Bug—This program features a short video where Louie the Lightning Bug reminds students about basic electrical safety. Students will then be asked to discuss the safety tips they learn.  Students will go home with a safety booklet. This program lasts approximately 30-45 minutes and is appropriate for students in grades Kindergarten through 3rd. (An additional segment on insulators/conductors can be requested for 2nd and 3rd grades.)

2. Energy Efficiency—This program again features a handbook from Louie the Lightning Bug where he discusses the importance of energy efficiency. In the “Energy Monsters” booklet, students learn about energy savings and ways they can contribute. This presentation lasts approximately 30-45 minutes and is appropriate for 2nd through 4th grades.

3. Circuits—This program teaches students about the difference between open vs. closed circuits, parallel vs. series circuits, as well as about insulators and conductors. This program last approximately 30 minutes and is appropriate for students in 3rd and 4th grade.

4. Wind Turbine— This program gives students a hands-on learning opportunity to learn how to construct their own blades for a wind turbine and measure the energy output. They will also learn the basics of wind turbine energy production. This is a great program for STEM night programs and can be used for grades Kindergarten through high school.

Also, FLEC will be happy to attend your Career Day programs and even customize an educational program to meet your classroom needs.  Just give us a call or email so we may help you help our future members!
