Prepare for extreme cold hitting the area

Just as a reminder, FLEC asks our membership to be prepared for the extremely cold weather that is upon the area over the next couple of days. Please check on elderly family members and neighbors to make sure they are staying warm. In the event of a power outage, it is recommended to have a box of outage supplies, like extra blankets, bottled water, non-perishable food, flashlight and batteries, and a possible alternate source of heat. FLEC has made extra preparations to ready our system to best prepare for the extremely cold conditions, but preventing a power outage entirely is not possible. In the event of a power outage, please call 1-877-353-2674 and use the automatic Outage Management System to report your outage.

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is urging all members in the area to use their electricity conservatively over the next few days. This will ease the demands on the system and help to prevent an overload, resulting in an outage.  TVA especially asks for conservative usage of electrical items between the hours of 5 p.m. on Wednesday and 10 a.m. Thursday morning.

Please keep in mind that due to these extreme weather conditions, the electric bills for the coming month will reflect the usage increase and will likely be higher than usual. The colder the weather, the more the heat has to run to keep us warm. At least we can be thankful for being warm.
