Friendsville Elementary School Receives $5,000 STEM Grant

Congratulations to Friendsville Elementary School on their recent $5,000 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Grant from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Friendsville was one of 161 schools to receive funding from TVA. The grant provided the funds needed for robots like the Ozobots and other materials. Teachers Heather Norton and Leona Grubbs are Friendsville’s technology leaders and the grant applicants. Hopefully STEM activities will continue to build students’ interest in careers within organizations like TVA or FLEC.

Visitors from TVA and FLEC attended the official check presentation on April 8 at Friendsville Elementary School. Pictured are Friendsville’s  Heather Norton, FLEC’s CEO Jarrod Brackett, TVA’s Candyce Hitchcock, FLEC’s Board President John Loope, Friendsville’s Principal Stan Painter, Friendsville’s Leona Grubbs, FLEC’s Amy Kirkland, and students from Norton’s fifth-grade class and Grubbs’s kindergarten class.
