FLEC to Hold Elections/District Meetings in August

Fort Loudoun Electric Cooperative (FLEC) will hold elections and district meetings at the end of August to elect board representatives for its members in District 2 and District 5. The District 2 election/meeting will be held at the Greenback Community Center on Monday, August 26. The District 5 election/meeting will be held at Friendsville Elementary School on Tuesday, August 27. Doors will open at 5 p.m. each night for voting and will continue for one hour after the start of the business meeting at 7 p.m., unless candidates agree otherwise. Refreshments will be provided and door prizes will be given away following the business meeting to members participating in the elections. Members able to participate should receive notice by mail during the first part of August. As a result of bylaw changes passed in October 2018, early voting will also be held at FLEC’s office in Vonore during the ten business days preceding the election dates. Early voting dates and hours will be listed on the postcard notifications.

Until the close of business on July 1, 2019, FLEC accepted applications from individual members wishing to be considered for the position of Director/Trustee of the Cooperative’s Board; three of the eight district seats were open this year. After reviewing the applications for Director/Trustee, the Credentials Committees decided the applications of Patrick Geoghegan, David Keenan, and James R Pugh were approved for consideration for the position of Director/Trustee of District 2. Also, another Credentials Committee reviewed applications for the position of Director/Trustee of District 5. Rob Walker and Vernon Davis had submitted applications and were approved for consideration. Vernon Davis made a decision not to seek re-election afterwards. Only the incumbent director’s, Angela Tallent’s, application for District 8 was submitted. In 2016, FLEC’s membership passed a change to the bylaws that the Cooperative not hold district meetings when only the incumbent directors apply by the prescribed deadline. Therefore, the Cooperative will not hold a district meeting or election in District 8 this year. Angela Tallent, FLEC’s Director/Trustee for District 8 and current Board Secretary/Treasurer, will be approved by the Board of Directors/Trustees later this month to serve another three year term.
